NELIY's workshop programme has excellent teachers coming up in 2025: Alice Knowelden on 17th May, Sarra Whicheloe on 12th July, Judith Richards on 11th October. We even have a longer workshop arranged for 2026: Sue Lovell on 7th February, 1-6pm (a very popular senior teacher from outside London; this will be at a different venue). These workshops will usually be
2pm - 5pm
at Yoga House, Leicester Road, East Finchley, London
N2 9EA (tiys.co.uk), unless stated otherwise. This purpose built,
fully equipped
Iyengar yoga studio
is just five minutes’ walk from East Finchley tube station;
it's on the 223 and 263 bus routes, and there are roads nearby where parking is free.
Alice Knowelden (Saturday, 17th May)
has been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 2015 and practising
yoga since the 1990s. Although she started with other styles, it was the Iyengar yoga approach that transformed her practice. After a wrist
injury, Alice met an Iyengar yoga teacher who encouraged her to attend classes; the
use of props, precision and focus on alignment allowed her to practise
yoga
safely
while her wrist healed. Alice has studied in Pune with the
Iyengar family, learning directly from Geeta, Prashant and Abhijata, and she
recently spent four weeks in Sydney, attending classes with Pixie Lillas. Alice aims to make her classes challenging and fun,
while conveying detail and accuracy. She enjoys working with a range of
students, including older adults and people who believe they are 'too stiff'
for yoga. This is a general workshop, open to nearly everyone (please check with us if you are a total beginner or have medical issues).
Sarra Whicheloe (Saturday, 12th July)
- As
an Indian Classical Dance Artist based in
North London, Sarra began learning Iyengar Yoga, and became a certified teacher
in 2007. Now living in the Surrey Hills, she runs workshops and classes from
Cranleigh Arts centre and online. She also teaches in the community for those
with mental health concerns, for teenagers and those with physical
restrictions. Sarra, who holds a Level 3 teaching
certificate, enjoys mentoring teachers-in-training, and is developing her
practice of yoga therapeutics. She aims for a teaching style that is positive,
with a dynamic and fluid approach, nurturing everyone to practise intelligently
at their own pace, learning to listen to their bodymindheart. For Sarra, Yoga
awakens joy and cultivates an inner stability in a turning world.

First Aid course (date tbc March, 2026): Iyengar yoga teachers are required to hold an up-to-date first aid certificate, so NELIY sometimes organises a day of first aid training with a qualified provider. For this event, we have invited back Sara Hill (Theamata First Aid), since we got very good feedback on the last course she ran for NELIY. Full attendance at this event will enable you to receive a certificate in Emergency First Aid At Work (EFAW), valid for three years. Priority in booking for this event will go to teacher or trainee members of IY(UK), but anyone can book if there are spaces available. The maximum number of attendees is twelve. The cost of this event will be posted later, and the course will last 8 hours. The cost for each 3-hour yoga workshop depends on whether you are a NELIY member or not; workshops are cheaper for NELIY members. For non-members, it's £45, but NELIY members pay only £35 (or £25, if you are on a very low income). So, we encourage you to join NELIY before booking for a workshop. To join, go to the website of

to join via a member group (this is cheaper than joining as an individual
IY(UK) member), and look for North East London Iyengar Yoga in the list.
To be sure of a place, book early by clicking above on BOOKING and then on the Workshop price that applies to you.
If a workshop is full,
it is possible that a space may come up at very short notice, and
would be offered to whomever we can contact first on the waiting list
(to join the waiting list, use 'Waiting list' button on the BOOKING
page).
When you book, please state which event you are booking onto (please name the teacher, if it is a workshop).
For all events, we ask you to pay by bank transfer, giving your name as
the reference.
Workshop Booking Terms and Conditions
By booking a workshop with NELIY, you are agreeing to the following Terms and Conditions.
- Your place on the workshop is confirmed only when full payment has been received.
- If you join a waiting list for a workshop, you will not be asked to pay unless you are subsequently offered a place.
- If you cancel more than 18 calendar days before the workshop date, you may request a refund, which will normally be paid less a £5 administration fee. Alternatively, you may request and receive full credit for a future NELIY workshop.
- If the workshop is less than 18 calendar days away, no refund will be given but, if NELIY agrees, you may give or sell your place to someone else. If you wish to do this, you must advise NELIY of the name of your proposed replacement, and wait for a message approving the substitution. We usually do agree, but reserve the right not to (e.g. if we have a waiting list). Alternatively, you may request credit for a future NELIY workshop, but this is at NELIY’s discretion.
- We reserve the right to cancel a workshop, or change the venue or teacher. NELIY will only do this under exceptional circumstances, and with as much notice as possible.
- A full refund of fees paid will be offered to you if we cancel a workshop, or you may opt to receive credit for a future workshop.
- Occasionally, someone from NELIY may take photographs in workshops, for use on social media and in promotional material. Please let the workshop host or photographer know if you do not want your image to appear in any photographs.
- All queries, cancellation and substitution requests should be directed to the Workshop team (events@neliy.org.uk), unless you are advised otherwise.
