NELIY's workshop programme has excellent teachers coming up in 2024-5: Tessa Bull (21st September), Lorraine McConnon (9th November) and Khaled Kendsi (1st February, 2025). These workshops will be 2pm - 5pm at Yoga House, Leicester Road, East Finchley, London N2 9EA (tiys.co.uk). This purpose built, fully equipped Iyengar yoga studio is just five minutes’ walk from East Finchley tube station, on the 223 and 263 bus routes, and there are roads nearby where parking is free.

Tessa Bull

Tessa Bull (21st September), FULL WAIT LIST ONLY pictured right, has practised Iyengar yoga for over 40 years and been teaching since 1997.  She is a level 3 teacher with a special interest in therapy yoga, and teaches group and private classes in North London. This workshop will focus on knee health, how to avoid knee injuries, and how to care for problematic knees in class.  It will be of interest to Iyengar yoga teachers and students, and is open to all practitioners of Iyengar yoga, except for complete beginners.

Tuesday update - NOW FULL WAIT LIST ONLY.

Lorraine McConnon (9th November), pictured left, qualified as an Iyengar Yoga teacher in 1986. She is a level 3 teacher and a former member of the IY(UK) Therapy Committee. She teaches in Hackney and Sevenoaks, and online. This is what Lorraine says about her workshop:  Hands and feet - The conscious working of the hands and feet fundamentally determines the nature of the horizontal and vertical extensions of the back by lengthening the spine and broadening the ribcage. In this workshop, we will explore how focusing on these actions directly activates and integrates the benefits of the asanas structurally, energetically, and in terms of their impact on the organic body. This ultimately leads to a more economical use of energy; by becoming more grounded, it opens the opportunity to discover lightness and a sense of spaciousness within the asana.

Teachers exchange ideas

Khaled Kendsi will be doing a workshop in the new year (on 1st February 2025).

More details will follow, but you can book for any of these workshops now; just remember to specify which teacher you are booking for when you fill in the online booking form, please.

Teachers' Exchange of Learning Day (24th November): this is our annual professional development event, which NELIY organises on behalf of IY(UK). It costs £28, and will probably run from 10am until 4pm (tbc). The theme this year is 'Yoga for all ages'. More details will follow; for now, you can book your place, if you are a teacher or trainee member of IY(UK).

The cost for each 3-hour workshop depends on whether you are a NELIY member or not; workshops are cheaper for NELIY members. For non-members, it's £45, but NELIY members pay only £35 (or £25, if you are on a very low income). So, we encourage you to join NELIY before booking for a workshop. To join, go to the website of our national organisation, IY(UK): iyengaryoga.org.uk/join-iyuk . Follow the directions to join via a member group (this is cheaper than joining as an individual IY(UK) member), and look for North East London Iyengar Yoga in the list.

To be sure of a place, book early by clicking above on BOOKING and then on the Workshop price that applies to you. If a workshop is full, it is possible that a space may come up at very short notice, and would be offered to whomever we can contact first on the waiting list (to join the waiting list, use 'Waiting list' button on the BOOKING page).

When you book, please state which teacher's workshop you are booking onto.

For all events, we ask you to pay by bank transfer, giving your name as the reference.
