NELIY's workshop programme is now sorted for the rest of 2026, and we're already thinking about 2027.  We're looking forward to workshops with Catherine Coulson (19th July),  Maggie O’Grady (5th September) and Senior teachers Sheila Haswell (10th October, 1-6pm at Crouch End Fitness Centre) and Ros Bell (12 December). We've also got planned an Exchange of Learning Day for teachers and trainees on 14th November, and a First Aid course (13th March 2027, Caxton House Community Centre). The workshops will normally be 2pm - 5pm at Yoga House, Leicester Road, East Finchley, London N2 9EA (tiys.co.uk), unless stated otherwise. This purpose built, fully equipped Iyengar yoga studio is just five minutes’ walk from East Finchley tube station; it's on the 223 and 263 bus routes, and there are roads nearby where parking is free. You can book for any of these workshops now; please specify which teacher you are booking for when you fill in the online booking form.  Book here

Catherine Coulson (19th July) has been practising yoga since the early 1990s and qualified as a teacher in 1998. She has taught at adult education centres, gyms and yoga studios, before opening her own small studio in Crouch End two years ago. Her teaching style is focussed on a thorough understanding of correct positioning, alignment and mobility in asana practice, so that students can explore and analyse what their body and mind are doing in different postures. Catherine integrates yoga philosophy directly into her classes, to bring a deeper experience, and she has a particular interest in yoga therapy. She has studied with the Iyengar family and other senior teachers in Pune, India. Since 2018, she has travelled there every year (except 2021) as part of her commitment to continuing professional development. Catherine also loves cooking, entertaining and travel, and runs yoga holidays overseas. This workshop is open to people with any level of yoga experience, but please check with us if you are a total beginner or have medical issues.

Maggie O'Grady (5th September) has practised yoga since 1993, and qualified to teach Iyengar yoga in 2015. She obtained an MA in Traditions of Yoga and Meditation from SOAS in 2021, and has a particular interest in the study of yoga and tantra for purification. She has made four visits to RIMYI in India, most recently in 2025, cherishing classes with Prashant Iyengar. Maggie enjoys teaching online, at venues around London, and internationally. On her yoga holidays, she dives deep, exploring the chakra system through asana, pranayama and chanting. In her workshop for NELIY, she aims to give you a snapshot of this healing work. It will take place from 2-5pm, at our usual venue, The Iyengar Yoga Studio in Leicester Road, N2 9EA.

Sheila

Sheila Haswell (10th October) has been practising and teaching yoga for almost 50 years, for half that time as a senior teacher (Level 3). She has studied on many occasions with BKS Iyengar and his daughter Geeta, in India, the UK and elsewhere, and most recently visited the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune in 2025. Sheila has given most of her working life to studying and teaching, in the UK and overseas. She has also served for many years on various committees of IY(UK), and is an assessor and mentor for new and progressing teachers. For the past 10 years, Sheila has run The Yoga Shala in High Wycombe. This longer workshop is open to people with any level of yoga experience, but please check with us if you are a total beginner or have medical issues.  It will run 1-6pm at Crouch End Fitness Centre, 184 Tottenham Lane, London N8 8SG (entrance on Elmfield Avenue). There is ample parking outside, and several bus routes stop in Crouch End.

Exchange of Learning Day (14th November 2026) This is IY(UK)'s Professional Development day for teachers and trainees. The theme and programme for the day is the same across the country (to be advised). Ros Bell will be the senior teacher leading the day. This EoL Day is at the same venue we used last year, Caxton House Community Centre, 129 St John's Way, N19 3RQ, and will start just after 1pm and finish by 6pm. The venue is about 5 minute walk from Archway tube station, there's a bus stop outside, and on-street parking. It's a large hall, with some yoga equipment provided. We'll be in touch nearer the time with more information. It is an event only for certified Iyengar Yoga teachers and registered teacher trainees. Cost is £35 (same as last year), which we ask you to pay by bank transfer.

First Aid course (13th March 2027): Iyengar yoga teachers are required to hold an up-to-date first aid certificate, so NELIY sometimes organises a day of first aid training with a qualified provider. For this event, we have invited back Sara Hill (Theamata First Aid), since we got very good feedback on the last courses she ran for NELIY. Full attendance at this event will enable you to receive a certificate in Emergency First Aid At Work (EFAW), valid for three years. Priority in booking for this event will go to teacher or trainee members of IY(UK), but anyone can book if there are spaces available. The maximum number of attendees is twelve. The venue is: Finchley Quaker Meeting House, 58 Alexandra Grove, N12 8HG. The 221 bus route runs past the hall and two Northern Line tube stations are within a 5 minute walk. The cost of the course is £90, which is remarkably competitive. The day will run from 9.30am to 5.30pm. If you are interested, please contact Mags (NELIY's organiser for this event); her email is: hello@iyogawithmags.co.uk - or book via our BOOKING page.

The cost for each 3-hour yoga workshop depends on whether you are a NELIY member or not; workshops are cheaper for NELIY members. For non-members, it's £45, but NELIY members pay only £35 (or £25, if you are on a very low income). So, we encourage you to join NELIY before booking for a workshop. To join, go to the website of our national organisation, IY(UK): iyengaryoga.org.uk/join-iyuk . Follow the directions to join via a member group (this is cheaper than joining as an individual IY(UK) member), and look for North East London Iyengar Yoga in the list.

To be sure of a place, book early by clicking above on BOOKING and then on the Workshop price that applies to you. If an event is full, it is possible that a space may come up at very short notice, and would be offered to whomever we can contact first on the waiting list (to join the waiting list, please send an email to NELIY's events bookings person; her email is: hello@iyogawithmags.co.uk ).

When you book, please state which event you are booking onto (please name the teacher, if it is a workshop).

For all events, we ask you to pay by bank transfer, giving your name as the reference.

Workshop Booking Terms and Conditions

By booking a workshop with NELIY, you are agreeing to the following Terms and Conditions.

  1. Your place on the workshop is confirmed only when full payment has been received.
  2. If you join a waiting list for a workshop, you will not be asked to pay unless you are subsequently offered a place.
  3. If you cancel more than 18 calendar days before the workshop date, you may request a refund, which will normally be paid less a £5 administration fee. Alternatively, you may request and receive full credit for a future NELIY workshop.
  4. If the workshop is less than 18 calendar days away, no refund will be given but, if NELIY agrees, you may give or sell your place to someone else. If you wish to do this, you must advise NELIY of the name of your proposed replacement, and wait for a message approving the substitution. We usually do agree, but reserve the right not to (e.g. if we have a waiting list). Alternatively, you may request credit for a future NELIY workshop, but this is at NELIY’s discretion.
  5. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop, or change the venue or teacher. NELIY will only do this under exceptional circumstances, and with as much notice as possible.
  6. A full refund of fees paid will be offered to you if we cancel a workshop, or you may opt to receive credit for a future workshop.
  7. Occasionally, someone from NELIY may take photographs in workshops, for use on social media and in promotional material. Please let the workshop host or photographer know if you do not want your image to appear in any photographs.
  8. All queries, cancellation and substitution requests should be directed to the Workshop team (events@neliy.org.uk), unless you are advised otherwise.
